The LEED certification requires auditors and certified professionals who are proficient to provide the arrangements in house and in the work spots for upholding the standards as per the guidelines enlisted so that the scope of Green initiative is maintained. The LEED AP specialties have five recognized areas for LEED accredited professionals. They are LEED Building Design & Construction (LEED BD&C), LEED Interior Design & Construction (LEED ID&C),LEED Operations & Maintenance (LEED O&M),LEED Homes (LEED H) and LEED Neighborhood Development (LEED ND). Duration of the exam is 2 hour and consists of 100 questions.

The LEED AP specialty overview attempts to demonstrate advanced depth of knowledge in green building practices leading to LEED certification. The exam attempts to manifest the candidate’s ability to specialize in a particular LEED Rating System. Specialization in the respective program is possible and there are also provisions to pass in multiple specialties to become a full fledged Green architect. The eligibility for appearing in the specialty exam is that the candidates need to have an experience in a LEED Project. The LEED Green Associate credential can also be used as prior experience to Pursue Additional specialties. The specialties help in ensuring standards leading to LEED certification.
